For my first post, I wanted to start off with the motto that I like to try and live by on a day to day basis. "Listen to your body". When I am planning out my daily meals, I start by asking myself, " What have I had a lot of? What have I not had enough of? What am I craving?" A lot of times the things that we are craving our related to nutrients that our body is lacking. For instance, if I am craving red meat then maybe I'm low on iron. So instead of eating a big juicy cheeseburger that Im sure would be delicious, Ill eat a turkey burger with spinach (high in iron) so that I still give myself something that I can make just as tasty but healthier and full of iron. Also, when I am planning my next meal I like to consider what I have already eaten that day. For instance, say I had a veggie and egg scramble for breakfast. I ate veggies and protein but didn't really get any healthy fats or antioxidants. so for lunch Im going to have avocado toast with berries. All of these ways of thinking may seem a bit complicating at first but once you implement this every day then it will quickly become a habit and be so simple to do. I am to the point where I'll slip and eat a cupcake at a birthday party and than follow it with a huge bowl of vegetables or greens to balance it out, haha. You have to do what works for you but the main goal here is to learn to give your body to what your body needs.
